Wolf Willow
This collection was inspired by a 2017 art residence at the Wallace Stegner House in Eastend Saskatchewan. The Frenchman River Valley is located south of the Cypress Hills of SW Saskatchewan, near the US & Alberta Borders. The area is separated for the rest of the Province from the main highways and railroads located north the Cypress Hills, and this relative isolation has largely sheltered the area from recent development, preserving aspects of traditional prairie life in an area that has witnessed many of the events that shaped the Canadian West. Land use has necessarily evolves with time, but the process has been gentle enough to leave a remarkable record of historical events. The collection illustrates a unique part of the Canadian Prairies that combines a remarkable landscape with a remarkably well-preserved record of traditional rural prairie life.
